Jharkhand Milk Federation (JMF) ‘Medha Dairy’ has been identified as the supplier for the programme. Daily about 13,800 students in 37 Government schools are provided with 200 ml of pasteurised fortified flavoured toned milk with an objective to address malnutrition in the children and to provide nutrition values to government school children.

An impact study consisting of a pre-intervention baseline study and a post-intervention end line study was conducted as a part of the programme. The study was conducted by Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences on Anthropometric and Clinical parameters. The findings show increase in cumulative attendance was by over 10% in the intervention schools;  reduced specific body complaints in the intervention group (5.4%) as compared to control group (13.1%);  decrease in number of stunted children in intervention schools; and reduction in number of anaemic children in intervention schools.

Due to the significant positive impact, the Jharkhand state Government adopted the programme as PM Giftmilk Scheme for a few districts including Latehar to begin with. The Scheme was inaugurated in Jharkhand by our honourable Prime Minister.
